Smoothies are a convenient and tasty way to boost your metabolism, regulate your blood sugar, and sneak in those veggies first thing in the morning. They allow you to squeeze in a lot of nutrition in an easily digestible manner, perfect for those who work out first thing, or who are not big breakfast eaters. A highly nutritious breakfast boosts you’re metabolism early on, energizing and activating your brain. Healthy smoothies are hydrating, uplifting, and just so good.
Superfoods are generally plant-based foods and considered to be extremely nutrient dense due to abundant sources of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Adding superfoods to your smoothies can give you a whole lot of nutrition without consuming a whole lot of calories. Many are delicious, but some of the extremely beneficial anti-inflammatories (like spirulina and cod liver oil) are not so easy on the palate. However, sneak them into your smoothie, along with any prebiotics, protein powders and other supplements, and voila, delicious liquid gold!
I make a great smoothie every morning. Why should I participate in the superfood smoothie challenge?
For starters, group accountability. You want to change it up and break that breakfast routine. Trying a different smoothie everyday gives you a wider array of nutrients that your body needs. This challenge is a great way to try foods that are not often in your daily diet (ie maca powder, goji berries, and coconut oil). Smoothies can easily be vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free, and can even replace that coffee habit.
Mindful Eating. The smoothie challenge requires you to track how you feel afterwards and a few hours later. Awareness about how you fuel your body leads to healthier decisions throughout the day.
Participation in the Superfood Smoothie challenge gets you 4 nutritious and delicious smoothie recipes, along with the health benefits of each one. You will receive an easy, design your own smoothie instruction sheet for day 5. This will include a variety of fruits, vegetables, superfoods, and liquids along with their amazing benefits. Use this equation to mix and match ingredients in order to custom design your own superfood smoothie. Throughout the week you will drink to your health, document your journey, and post on instagram.
