What do I mean ‘look better’? I’m not talking make up, hair, or skin tips to looking fabulous. I already think you’re fabulous. I’m going to give you 5 tips to look at the world better; 5 tips on how to create a positive outlook on life; to view the world in a different and more meaningful way.
I got this idea from Shameless Maya’s “how to look better tag” video on Youtube. She is brilliant AND I was completely inspired to develop my own tips on how to look better. I’m shamelessly sharing my 5 tips in hopes that you too will be inspired!
Tip 1: Find inspiration. Find motivation. Be aware. What inspires you? What motivates you? Can you find inspiration in your daily life? If not, how can you make that happen?
I’m inspired mostly by people. Dancers, musicians, artists and other creatives. Entreprenuers, health lovers, intellegent and fearless folks. My niece, nephew, sister. My closest, most darling friends. I find TONS of inspiration on the internet. Google, Youtube, Facebook. I sift through and disregard the negativity that often overwhelms the media; because the more you seek the positive, the more it manifests. Seek it. Embrace it. Be it. I am aware of what inspires me. I actively find inspiration daily.
Tip 2: Focus on what makes you FEEL GOOD. Healthy good. Happy good. The good that ignites your body, soul and mind. Focus on that.
It is so easy to be consumed by grief, stress, fear and doubt. We become victim to these negative forces. That’s no way to live. SO, what makes you feel good? Make a list. Become aware and do/experience these things. For me, it’s moving my body. Whether it’s through dance, walking, jogging, yoga, or strength exercises, I love to move my body. I love to eat good, healthy, well-made food. I love chai tea lattes, coffee shops, nature, working with young people, being with friends and family, traveling. ALL things that make me feel good are written in my schedule. It’s a priority. Because I make it one.
Tip 3: Actively listen, observe, notice, feel and be. I talk a lot about awareness in my work. It is crucial. Especially with ‘looking better’.
Active change does not occur unless we are aware of who we are, what we want and what surrounds us. Listen to your spirit. Listen to others. Listen with intention. Ask questions. Be curious. Show others that you care and that they are worthy of being heard. Be observant. Watch what takes place around you. Look at the world with a loving eye. Notice the small things. Notice beauty. Be open to all feelings from scary to joyous. Be aware of how experiences, people, and thoughts make you feel. And then with all of this, just be. Be present. Be mindful. Just be.
Tip 4: Develop self-compassion.
You live your life with one person. YOU! Other people are around, other people affect you. But only YOU are there 24/7. We have to learn to love and appreciate our person. We have to learn to take care of our person. We must learn to show our self as much compassion as we do others. Especially the people in our lives that we love and care about the most. I am my worst critic. I always have been. People are often surprised when they hear about my insecurities and negative self-talk. I’m so giving and compassionate towards others, but for some reason sometimes forget to be that giving and compassionate towards myself. As if I’m not worthy. But I am. And you are too!
Tip 5: Create a healthy and active lifestyle.
Health and wellness, nutrition, an exercise are CRUCIAL to living a balanced and positive life. We at It’s Possible Project are firm believers of this. And guess what? We have science to back this value. I’m not sure of all the physical benefits (that’s Marissa’s world) but I know that when I am eating clean, healthy, well made food, I feel better and see the world in a more positive light. When I’m active, I have more energy, feel more confident and believe I can conquer anything.
My view of the world is quite AMAZING when I focus on incorporating these five tips into my life. Try one. Try five. Let me know how you are going to “LOOK better!”
Lots of love,
